Wellington-based Oceanic Holding International Limited (OHIL) is set to become a big hit in the Caribbean after making a significant investment in the Jamaica Tallawahs Twenty20 cricket team, a leading side in the Caribbean Premier League (CPL). Continuing their successful partnership with Facey Telecom, one of the largest distributors of mobile handsets in the Caribbean and Central America, OHIL is about to launch a new international mobile brand, XOX Mobile, which is a founding sponsor of the Tallawahs.

Wellington businessmen Locky Mulholland, Tonis Focas and Craig Beedell directors of OHIL, are delighted to have joined forces with such a high-profile, elite sports team. “We are really excited to be investing in the Jamaica Tallawahs, which is XOX’s first sponsorship involvement anywhere in the world,” Locky explained. “The two brands are so similar it makes perfect sense: they are both new, fun, exciting, bold and very, very cool.

“Jamaicans live for cricket and it’s no surprise that the Tallawahs have become an instant hit, particularly as they are captained by the world’s most exciting batsman, Chris Gayle. Jamaica has also always been a forerunner in the Caribbean cellular phone market, which is why it’s the ideal venue for the initial launch of the XOX brand. The international rollout will happen over time and the brand will become very involved in communities and sports in each country.”

The Caribbean Premier League has got off to a spectacular start in its inaugural season, with many of the world’s biggest international stars joining local heroes and coaches to turn it into a thrilling tournament. Big businesses and celebrities are queuing up to get involved with the CPL, such as Hollywood heavyweight Gerard Butler, who announced earlier this week that he is also investing in the Jamaica Tallawahs. While XOX products won’t hit the shelves until the first quarter of 2014, taking a stake in such an exciting venture ensures that the brand will be in excellent company right from day one.
